United Airlines sued for inflicting “traumatic stress” after emergency landing

Passengers are suing United Airlines Inc. and CommutAir, claiming they were traumatized when the plane they were traveling in had to make an emergency landing.

Pamela S. Glover, Gregory L. Glover and Scott E. Glover filed a complaint on Aug. 24 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging , on Sept. 24, 2016, Pamela Glover was traveling with her granddaughter, identified in court documents as “LG,” aboard Flight 4919 from Albany, N.Y., to Washington, D.C., when at the final approach the pilots were forced to perform an emergency landing, allegedly due to an issue with the nose landing gear.

As a result, Pamela Glover allegedly suffered injuries to her wrist, while both her and her granddaughter suffered significant traumatic stress for fear of impending death, economic loss, emotional trauma, physical pain and suffering, and incurred medical expenses, according to the lawsuit.

Additionally, plaintiff Gregory Glover alleges he suffered the loss of care, comfort and society of his wife due to her injuries.

The plaintiffs hold United Airlines and Champlain Enterprises, doing business as CommutAir, responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to properly maintain the aircraft’s front landing gear, failed to ensure that the aircraft was airworthy and failed to properly train employees to perform their duties in a professional manner.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment against defendant for damages greater than $50,000, plus costs and expenses, and other damages and relief as the court deems just.
