Suit alleges asbestos exposure caused man’s lung cancer

The daughter of a laborer who died from lung cancer is suing several companies, alleging asbestos exposure.

Shelly Middleton, as special administrator of the estate of Francis Middleton, filed a complaint on Oct. 3 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Armstrong Pump Company, Cleaver-Brooks, Zurn Industries LLC and other defendants.

According to the complaint, Francis Middleton was exposed to asbestos fibers emanating from certain products manufactured by the defendants. He was diagnosed with lung cancer earlier this year and died, the complaint states. The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to provide adequate warnings and instructions concerning the dangers of working around products containing asbestos fibers.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory and economic damages of not less than $50,000.
