Patient sues St. Elizabeth’s Hospital alleging injuries during throat procedure

A former patient has filed a negligence lawsuit against St. Elizabeth’s Hospital of the Hospital Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis and its employees claiming that she was injured during a throat procedure.

Plaintiff Karen K. Range, filed the lawsuit in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against St. Elizabeth’s Hospital of the Hospital Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis, Prairie Cardiovascular Consultants, LTD., Paban Saha, MD, Nand K. Kodwani, MD, and Anesthesia Associates of Belleville, LTD., citing negligence and carelessness.

According to the lawsuit, on July 27, 2021, Range was a patient of the defendants for a throat procedure. She claims that during the procedure, the defendants negligently caused injury to her esophagus while administering anesthesia and during the procedure itself.

Range claims that as a result, she has sustained injuries which have caused her to experience pain and suffering. She also claims her injury will impact her ability to enjoy a normal life. She adds that she has incurred medical expenses and will continue to require the services of medical staff to recover from her injuries.

The plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus court costs and any other relief the court deems proper.
