Patient alleges Red Bud hospital failed to diagnose spinal infection

A former patient has filed a negligence lawsuit against the Red Bud Regional Hospital, claiming its staff failed to properly diagnose an infection in his spine.

Plaintiff Brian Clark filed a lawsuit in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Dr. Rosanne Sutter, Red Bud Physician Group, LLC, and Red Bud Illinois Hospital Company, LLC doing business as Red Bud Regional Hospital, LLC.

According to the lawsuit, Clark was a patient of the defendants from Nov. 8, 2015, to Dec. 30, 2015. Clark claims that on Jan. 3, 2016, he had an x-ray performed at Belleville Memorial Hospital, which revealed that he had a bone infection in his spine. He was transferred to St. Louis University for emergency surgery.

According to the lawsuit, the defendants in Red Bud negligently failed to order diagnostic x-rays that would have revealed the bone infection in his spine and delayed him from receiving proper care for the infection.

Clark claims that as a result of the defendants’ alleged negligence, he was forced to sustain severe and disabling injuries and was forced to undertake additional surgeries. He claims to have endured pain, suffering, mental anguish and loss of normal life. He adds that he has incurred medical costs and will continue to require medical care to recover from his injuries.

The plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus court costs and any other relief the court deems proper.
