Motorist sues over hit-and-run crash with tractor trailer

A motorist alleges she was injured in a hit-and-run collision with a tractor trailer driver.

Michelle Mitchell filed a complaint in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Deanna Hart, 1 B.A.B.E. Trucking LLC, and others, alleging negligence.

According to Mitchell’s complaint, Hart was operating a tractor trailer on June 28, 2017, in the right westbound lane of Interstate 24 in Metropolis while Mitchell was driving her Pontiac in the left westbound lane. She claims Hart drove the tractor trailer into the left lane and then briefly returned to the right lane. She further claims Hart then drove into her lane a second time and forced her to drive off the roadway and into the median.

Mitchell alleges that after her Pontiac struck the median, the car became airborne, struck the interstate bridge and then fell into a concrete drainage ditch below the bridge.

The suit states that Hart continued to drive until she was stopped by law enforcement more than 100 miles away.

Mitchell claims that prior to the collision, Hart had committed numerous violations of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.

Mitchell seeks monetary relief of more than $50,000, interest and all other just relief.
