Motorist alleges driver failed to slow down for red light, caused rear-end collision

A motorist claims her vehicle was rear-ended when she slowed down for a red light, causing her to suffer injuries.

Latoya Nelson filed a complaint April 1 in the Madison County Circuit against Thomas Ackman, alleging negligence.

Nelson claims in her suit that she was driving her Chevrolet Impala on East Broadway Street near Homer M Adams Parkway in Madison County on May 1, 2019. She alleges that Ackman, who was driving a Ford F150, rear-ended her vehicle as she slowed down to stop for a red light.

Nelson claims Ackman failed to slow down and was driving “at an excessive speed.” She also claims Nelson knew or “reasonably could have known” that he was about to collide with her vehicle but failed to “sound a warning” and was also following her vehicle too closely.

Nelson alleges she suffered injuries to her head, neck, back, knees, arm and jaw as well as “emotional upset,” as a result of the collision.

Nelson seeks monetary relief of more than $50,000 and all other just relief.
