Firefighter sues over PFAS exposure

A firefighter is suing several companies, alleging he developed cancer due to exposure to toxic chemicals.

Edward Allsman filed the complaint in the Madison County Circuit Court against defendants Shell USA, Inc., Phillips 66 Company, Aton, LLC, Safety Kleen Systems, Inc., 3M Company, Tyco Fire Products, L.P., Chemguard, E. I. du Pont de Nemours & Co., National Foam, Inc., HWRT O11 Company, Williams Fire & Hazard Control, Inc., Johnson Controls, Inc., Angus International Safety Group Ltd., Angus Fire Armour Corporation, Carrier Global Corporation, United Technologies Corporation and Kidde PLC Inc.

The plaintiff alleges that his thyroid cancer diagnosis in 2006 was caused or contributed to by exposure to per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF). The complaint argues that the defendants failed to protect him from these exposures during his many years of service as a firefighter.

The plaintiff seeks compensatory damages and all other relief the court deems proper.
