Belleville man claims he was released from hospital with serious infection

A patient has filed a lawsuit against Archview Medical Specialists after allegedly being discharged form the hospital with a serious infection.

Plaintiff Michael Burkett filed a lawsuit in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Archview Medical Specialists, Touchette Regional Hospital, Dr. Samuel Baughman, M.D., and Dr. David Sprunger, M.D., citing negligence and carelessness.

According to the lawsuit, Burkett was under the care of Baughman and Sprunger, who was employed by Archview Medical Specialists for Touchette Regional Hospital. The lawsuit alleges the two doctors failed to identify and treat a serious infection that was on Burkett’s neck. They allegedly discharged him from care without informing him of the extent of the infection. Burkett claims the infection worsened, causing him serious injuries.

The plaintiff claims to have sustained injuries, which have caused him to experience pain, suffering and mental anguish.

Burkett is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus court costs and any other relief the court deems proper.
