Woman claims unsafe staircase caused her to suffer fractured ankle

A woman claims an unsafe staircase at a Collinsville office caused her to suffer a fractured ankle and other injuries.

Curtiseena Wilson filed a complaint Nov. 4 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Imagine Investments LLC, Hartmann Realtors Inc., doing business as Hartmann Rentals, and Hartmann Rental Properties, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Wilson claims she was at Image Investments located on Cherokee Drive in Collinsville on Dec. 16, 2018. While walking down the stairway in front of the building she allegedly tripped and fell. She alleges her fall was due to the stairway being “unlevel” with no “appropriate guardrail.” She also alleges the stairway was cracked, chipped and worn and that the defendants failed to warn of the dangerous condition.

Wilson claims the defendants were negligent in failing to inspect the stairway. She alleges it was “unfit for the use for which it was intended.”

She further claims the defendants failed to “exercise reasonable care” and should have known the stairway needed repair, including needing a guardrail and handrail system to prevent falls and injuries.

As a result, Wilson claims she suffered “severe and permanent” injuries that included a fractured ankle.

Wilson seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief.
