Suit alleges child suffered injuries from dog bite in Roxana

The father of a child who was riding a bike in Roxana when the minor was allegedly attacked by a dog is suing the dog’s owner.

A lawsuit has been filed in the Madison County Circuit Court by John Crane, individually and as the father of M.C., a minor, against Amber N. Rives.

The suit alleges that on May 12, 2023, Rives’ Boxer dog attacked M.C. without provocation while it was uncaged, unleashed, and unrestrained at the defendant’s residence in Roxana.

The complaint alleges violation of the Illinois Animal Control Act, negligence on the part of Rives for failing to monitor the dog’s behavior and not restraining it despite knowing its vicious propensity, and violation of the Illinois Family Expense Act.

As a result of the attack, M.C. allegedly suffered injuries leading to pain and suffering, disability and disfigurement, loss of normal life, and medical expenses.

Crane is seeking damages in excess of $50,000 for each count.
