Patient alleges retina was detached during botched eye surgery

A patient of the Quantum Vision Center & Eye Surgery Center claims that she was blinded in one eye following surgery.

Plaintiff Deborah Buckley Lakin filed the lawsuit in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Michael Jones M.D. and Quantum Vision Center & Eye Surgery Center, LLC, citing negligence.

According to the lawsuit, on May 5, 2021, Lakin presented herself to the defendants for surgery on her left eye. Lakin alleges that during the course of the surgery, Jones deviated from common accepted practice and detached her eye’s retina, leaving her blind in her left eye.

Lakin states that as a result of her injury, she was forced to see a retina specialist and underwent at least five additional operations on her left eye to restore the damage. She alleges that she has suffered pain, suffering and mental anguish. She also claims she was required to expend significant amounts of money to recover from her injuries.

The plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of $50,000 and any other relief the court deems proper.
