Lyft passenger seeks damages from rideshare company, city of Chicago over Michigan Ave crash

A couple is seeking damages from a ride-hailing company and the city of Chicago over a collision earlier this month.

Jaclyn McKee and James Sakhleh filed a complaint on Dec. 14 in Cook County Circuit Court against Lyft Inc. and the city of Chicago alleging negligence and other counts.

According to the complaint, on Dec. 13, McKee was a passenger in a vehicle operated by a Lyft driver, traveling on Michigan Avenue near the intersection of Wacker Drive in Chicago when a vehicle operated by a Chicago city employee struck the Lyft vehicle.

As a result, McKee alleges she sustained physical injuries that left her unable to provide support and companionship to her husband, James Sakhleh.

The plaintiffs allege the defendants failed to maintain proper control over their vehicles, failed to reduce speed and failed to keep and maintain a proper lookout.

The plaintiffs seek judgment in an amount in excess of jurisdictional limits of the court and costs of suit.
