Lawsuit accuses The Villa nursing home of not preventing woman’s choking death

A complaint accuses a Chicago nursing home over the choking death of a female patient with dementia.

Patricia Wesley, as independent administrator of the estate of Alberta Townsend, filed a complaint on March 22 in Cook County Circuit Court against The Villa at Windsor Park, Villa Financial Services LLC, and others.

According to the complaint, Townsend was a resident at Villa in March 2017 and was at high risk for choking, as she needed help to eat. However, the complaint alleges Townsend died from asphyxia due to choking while in care at The Villa.

The defendant is accused of negligence and wrongful death.

The plaintiff is seeking damages, plus attorney fees and court costs.
