Collinsville woman sues over fall on water meter cover

A woman is suing the City of Collinsville, alleging she stepped on a faulty water meter cover and fell.

Breayleah Ellis and Daniel Ellis filed a complaint in the Madison County Circuit Court against the City of Collinsville, alleging negligence.

The plaintiffs allege that on Nov. 5, 2022, Breayleah Ellis was walking near Strong Avenue in Collinsville when she stepped into a water main hole that was not covered or secured and fell.

The plaintiffs claim the City of Collinsville was negligent for failing to adequately and promptly repair the hole and failing to inspect, maintain and secure the cover. They also claim the defendant failed to provide proper warning of the dangerous condition.

The plaintiffs allege that due to her fall, Breayleah Ellis suffered internal and external injuries to numerous parts of her body. They also allege they have incurred pharmaceutical, hospital and other medical bills as a result of her injuries as well as suffered impairment, pain and anguish.

The plaintiffs seek monetary relief of more than $50,000, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief.
