Edwin Anderson’s lawsuit against two dental professionals and their associated practices has brought to light a shocking case of alleged medical negligence. On April 17, 2025, Edwin Anderson filed a complaint in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois, against Dr. Kery Voit, DDS, Dr. Irbad Chowdhury, DMD, Kerry Voit DDS of Chicago, P.C., and Kerry Voit DDS, LTD. The complaint alleges that during a dental procedure performed by these defendants, a dental implant driver was negligently allowed to enter Anderson’s digestive tract.
The details of the case are both troubling and complex. According to the filed documents, on March 28, 2024, Edwin Anderson underwent dental implant surgery performed by Dr. Irbad Chowdhury at Kerry Voit DDS & Associates. Following this surgery, Anderson had approximately six follow-up appointments where he was treated by Dr. Kery Voit. During one of these treatments under Dr. Voit’s care, an implant driver reportedly entered Anderson’s esophagus without his knowledge or consent.
The situation took a turn for the worse when imaging conducted on September 12, 2024 revealed a foreign metallic object lodged in Anderson’s mid-ascending colon—a dental implant driver which had been ingested during treatment provided by the defendants. This necessitated surgical intervention to remove the object and led to further complications including abdominal pain and bowel obstruction.
Anderson’s legal team argues that both dentists failed in their duty of care by not employing preventive measures such as ligation with dental floss or using physical barriers to prevent such incidents from occurring. Furthermore, they accuse the dentists of failing to inform Anderson about the unaccounted-for implant driver which could have potentially been swallowed.
As a result of these alleged professional negligence acts or omissions by Drs. Voit and Chowdhury—both licensed practitioners in Illinois—Anderson claims he suffered significant damages including medical bills exceeding $50,000 alongside pain and suffering as well as loss of normal life functions due to disfigurement caused by surgical procedures required after ingesting the foreign body.
In seeking justice through this lawsuit filed under case number 2025L005234 with jury trial demanded status; plaintiff Edwin Anderson is requesting judgment against all named defendants collectively amounting sufficient compensation plus interest costs covering his extensive damages experienced thus far.
