A wrongful death and personal injury lawsuit has been filed against Marina Shores following a tragic electrical shock incident that occurred on July 10, 2025. The incident resulted in the death of Gabriel Gonzalez and serious injuries to his brother, Francis Gonzalez, III.
According to the complaint, the brothers were cleaning a boat at the marina when Gabriel jumped into the water to retrieve an item that had been dropped by another boater. Shortly after entering the water, he reportedly began experiencing symptoms of electrical shock and disappeared beneath the surface. Francis attempted to rescue his brother but was also injured by the same electrical current. Despite the efforts of bystanders and emergency personnel, Gabriel did not survive.
The lawsuit alleges that Marina Shores failed to address known electrical hazards and did not take appropriate safety measures, including posting required warning signage. It also claims the marina violated provisions of the National Electrical Code and had been the site of a similar electrical incident just days earlier.
The case raises broader concerns about electrical safety at marinas, especially during the peak of boating season.
